Tell Us What You Do

Awesome on the Spectrum is a service provider whose primary focus is on teens and adults with special needs. Our goal is to assist families by providing them with access to a range of services.

Among these are Community Support, Employment Assistance, Supported Employment and *Respite Care. Along with this, AotS has a trained facilitator on staff. Their job is to help families learn about and create Person Directed Personal Support Networks. These networks help their loved ones to ensure a lifetime of care and support.

At Awesome on the Spectrum, we work hard to help teens and adults with special needs learn several vital skills. These include functional living skills, social skills, self-advocacy and how to be a productive member of their communities. From here we help them to develop their strengths and learn in natural environments at their own individual pace. This way, they are far more likely to be successful.

Sensory Events for Teens and Adults with Special Needs

At AotS, we also host numerous sensory events. These included our “Monthly Game Night.” We host this on the third Thursday of every month in coordination with a local community partner. We host these events to help teens and adults with special needs time in which to socialize. This way, they can make new friends, learn and interact with one another while having a great time!

We are also actively engaged in participating in community outreach events several times per year in order to educate and provide much-needed resources for families in and around Dallas Fort Worth. This is one of our main priorities.

Tell Us Your Story and Why You Got Started

In 2013 one mom whose child has autism founded Awesome on the Spectrum in 2013. Her single mission – to help teens and adults with autism reach their full potential. The goal at AotS is to teach those on the autism spectrum valuable life skills. We also help instill a sense of confidence and independence. In doing this we make it possible for differently-abled people to live their best lives to the best of their abilities.

We firmly believe that “it takes a village” to care for and provide the services needed to enable teens and adults with autism to succeed. The village we create includes family, local community services, and others. Our village works together to enrich the lives of those who participate.

We strive to find unique ways to help teach our teens and young adults while working accommodations and inclusion based on how they naturally learn and function. Our classes and activities include members of the family. We feel that in doing this, we make it possible for the learning process to continue in the family home and our clients’ daily lives.

If Someone was Considering your Services, What Would You Want Them to Know?

We would like people to know that they are not alone when a family member is diagnosed with autism. At AotS, we have a wide range of programs designed to help teens and adults learn how to be independent. Our mission is to help one family at a time to succeed. Awesome on the Spectrum Inc. works to educate the community about the many elements of autism. We also work to demonstrate how including autistic people in all aspects of life betters society as a whole.

We advocate for teens and adults on the spectrum by promoting independence. Doing so enables those with Autism Spectrum Disorder to learn how to be their own advocates. Our goal is to help those on the spectrum build a stronger sense of self-confidence. In doing so,  we are making it possible for those with different abilities to enjoy the best possible life.
